Price sheets. very good. The 15 page introduction to the sale gives an illustrated and detailed history of Benacre Hall and the Gooch family from 1746 onwards. Throughout the house there is the intermingling of the very fine with the more normal and the rare with the more usual. Included in the three-day sale is a selection of fine English furniture, Dutch Old Masters, a handsome group of Gooch family portraits, silver and vertu, Continental and English porcelain, militaria and the Gooch library comprising many thousands of volumes and texts, as well as objects associated with a great English country house sale from a stuffed swan to a bottle green velvet smoking jacket. The "Ceramics Stored in the Butler's Pantry & Housekeeper's Room" included a set of Lowestoft teabowls ( a large collection of Lowestoft was destroyed in a fire at the hall), a pair of Derby figures, 2 Chamberlain tea services, Bristol delft bowl, Doulton figure of an Owl etc. |
